Technical Project Manager - Production

Munich

Who we are

Helsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards.

As democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously.

We are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams – and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications.

The role

As a Technical Project Manager at Helsing, you will own technical projects across our production environment — from new builds and machine installations to retrofits and process optimisations. You will coordinate stakeholders, manage suppliers, and drive projects from kick-off through to handover, ensuring every phase meets quality, safety, and regulatory standards. Alongside delivery, you will manage Capital Expenditure and Operational Expenditure budgets, providing clear financial visibility to senior leadership and collaborating closely with Finance, Operations, and Controlling to keep spending on target.

The day-to-day

Plan, execute, and monitor end-to-end technical projects in the production environment, maintaining rigorous project plans, milestone tracking, and status reporting that keep all internal and external stakeholders aligned

Own the full CapEx lifecycle: create, submit, and manage investment budgets, ensure correct asset capitalisation in collaboration with Finance, and deliver regular capital-spend reports to senior management

Identify and mitigate project risks early, applying structured risk-assessment frameworks to protect timelines, budgets, and compliance standards across all project phases

Analyse and optimise operational expenditure by identifying cost-reduction opportunities through process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains, partnering with Production Engineering to translate findings into measurable savings

Develop and maintain production KPIs to track operational costs, support the annual budget planning cycle, and align CapEx forecasts with Controlling on a regular basis

Coordinate and manage external suppliers and contractors, ensuring deliverables are met to specification, on schedule, and within agreed cost parameters

Lead structured project reviews and lessons-learned sessions, embedding findings into future project planning to drive continuous improvement across the production organisation

You should apply if you

Have successfully delivered complex technical projects in a production or industrial environment, from initial scoping through to operational handover

Have built and managed CapEx and OpEx budgets, including asset capitalisation processes and close collaboration with Finance or Controlling functions

Bring structured risk-management practice to your work, with a track record of identifying issues early and resolving them before they affect delivery

Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders — including suppliers, operations teams, and senior leadership — ensuring transparency without unnecessary complexity

Can design and implement KPIs and reporting frameworks that give decision-makers reliable, actionable visibility into project and cost performance

Work collaboratively across cross-functional teams, holding projects to account while maintaining strong working relationships across all levels of the organisation

Note: We operate in an industry where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematically under-represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points.

Nice to have

Bring familiarity with automation or process-engineering projects, enabling evaluation of technical trade-offs alongside operational and financial considerations

Have experience facilitating formal lessons-learned and project-review sessions that demonstrably improve future project performance

Helsing's work is important. You'll be directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns

The work is unique. We operate in a domain that has highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, and where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique Engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world

Our work frequently takes us right up to the state of the art in technical innovation, be it reinforcement learning, distributed systems, generative AI, or deployment infrastructure. The defence industry is entering the most exciting phase of the technological development curve. Advances in our field of world are not incremental: Helsing is part of, and often leading, historic leaps forward

In our domain, success is a matter of order-of-magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take bets, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Despite being a relatively young company, Helsing has already been selected for multiple significant government contracts

We actively encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about what we do and how we choose to do it. Teams and individual engineers are trusted (and encouraged) to practise responsible autonomy and critical thinking, and to focus on outcomes, not conformity. At Helsing you will have a say in how we (and you!) work, the opportunity to engage on what does and doesn't work, and to take ownership of aspects of our culture that you care deeply about
