Certified Cancer Tumor Registrar Abstractor (CTR)/Oncology Data Abstractor (ODS)

This role ensures accurate, timely, and complete oncology data abstraction in compliance with<b>CoC, NAACCR, SEER, NPCR, AJCC (8th ed.), ICD‑O‑3, and Solid Tumor Rules</b>.</p><h3>What You'll Do</h3><ul><li>Perform<b>casefinding and abstracting</b>for malignant and reportable benign tumors using VA‑approved sources (pathology, imaging, clinical documentation).</li><li>Code and stage cases using<b>AJCC 8th edition</b>,<b>ICD‑O‑3</b>,<b>NAACCR v23/24+</b>, and<b>Solid Tumor Rules</b>.</li><li><div>Enter and validate data in<b>OncoTraX</b>(current VA registry platform) and transition to<b>KACI – NeuralFrame</b>when implemented.<div><i>Note: Prior experience with these systems is<b>not required</b>; full training will be provided.</i></div></div></li><li>Conduct<b>follow‑up activities</b>to maintain survival and outcome data per VA and CoC standards.</li><li>Participate in<b>quality control reviews</b>, resolve edits, and support NCDB and state submissions.</li><li>Collaborate with VA registry leadership to maintain<b>CoC accreditation</b>and meet reporting deadlines.</li></ul><h3>Quality Expectations</h3><ul><li>HYRE HARPER and VA maintain<b>high quality standards</b>for all registry work.</li><li><b>Initial Grace Period:</b>As you learn VA systems and workflows, you will receive full support and training.</li><li><b>Quality Review Process:</b><ul><li>100% of your work will be reviewed until you achieve an average of<b>90%+ accuracy</b>on quality metrics.</li><li>Once achieved, review decreases to<b>50%</b>, then<b>10%</b>as consistency is demonstrated.</li></ul></li><li><b>Team Quality Monitoring:</b>All team members undergo<b>weekly quality evaluations</b>to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.</li></ul><h3>Work Environment</h3><ul><li>100% remote with secure, compliant workstation setup (or onsite/hybrid if required by VA).</li><li>Training provided on<b>OncoTraX</b>and<b>KACI – NeuralFrame</b>.</li><li>Assignments may involve multiple VA facilities and cancer program types.</li></ul><br><h3>Requirements</h3><h3>Minimum Qualifications</h3><ul><li><b>NCRA - Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification, (Previously -Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)</b>credential (active and in good standing).</li><li><b>2+ years</b>recent experience in cancer registry abstracting and casefinding.</li><li>Proficiency with: <ul><li><b>AJCC 8th edition staging</b>,<b>ICD‑O‑3</b>,<b>NAACCR standards</b>,<b>Solid Tumor Rules</b>,<b>STORE manual</b>.</li><li>Reference tools such as<b>SEER*Rx</b>and Hematopoietic &amp; Lymphoid Neoplasms DB.</li></ul></li><li>Strong understanding of<b>CoC/NCDB</b>and<b>state/NPCR</b>reporting requirements.</li><li>Ability to meet<b>productivity and quality benchmarks</b>in a remote, metrics‑driven environment.</li><li><b>HIPAA compliance</b>and commitment to data security.</li></ul><h3>Preferred Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Experience supporting<b>CoC accreditation</b>and VA or federal health systems.</li><li>Familiarity with registry software (OncoTraX, KACI, METRIQ, CNExT, etc.) – training provided if not experienced.</li><li>NCRA, AHIMA/HIM credentials (RHIT/RHIA) or related degree in<b>HIM, Oncology, or Public Health</b>.</li></ul><h3>Technical &amp; Security</h3><ul><li>Secure high‑speed internet and compliant remote workstation.
